Tax Advisory and Management Services Sdn Bhd or TAMS as it is popularly known, is a Malaysian firm that provides tax services world wide.

TAMS offers a complete range of both local and international tax consulting services in both direct valuable insights into strategic business and tax planning schemes via lectures, seminars, workshops and tax publications.

The firm is headed by Mr. Yong Poh Chye, B. Econs (Mal) (Hons), MEcon (Mal), FTII.

INTRODUCTION

Tax Advisory And Management Services Sdn Bhd or TAMS as it is popularly known, is a dynamic young firm offering a wide range of taxation services. Since its incorporation in 1983, its scope of activities has grown and its operations have covered not only Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak but also Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan.

 
   
OBJECTIVES
 

To ensure that the firm is held in the highest esteem by not only its large and widely-distributed clientele but equally by members of the tax and accounting professions, its guiding philosophy has been is to provide the best possible services in a strictly professional manner.

In professional practice, it strives to attain various objectives for the benefit of those who seek its services. These may be summarized as follows:-

  • educate clients on all aspects of Malaysian tax laws and the impact of these on their business operations
  • advise clients on the importance of tax and management as part of their day to day operations
  • assist client in evaluating the tax implications of their management decisions and formulating appropriate strategies to minimize their tax obligations

To maintain its reputation and the highest level of services and need to lead the profession, various positive steps have been and are continuing to be taken comprising:

  • Standards
  • At all times, TAMS observes the letter and spirit of the tax laws of Malaysia and those of double-taxation treaties with other countries. Whilst aggressively pursuing the interests of its clients, the firm would not allow its name to be associated with tax evasion, but would exhaust all avenues for tax reduction through resourceful and intelligent application of prevailing tax laws.

  • Research

    The firm is actively pursuing a program of research as it believes this to be an essential factor in keeping abreast of rapid changes in tax legislation. A comprehensive library is addition, for specific assignments, special research is undertaken to ensure that the particular objectives are met.

  • Development and Training

    The investment of TAMS in education, development and training of its professional and technical staff is considerable. This stems from its recognition that no single aspect of its organization is more important than the development of its human resources. Towards this end its staff regularly attend and participate in various taxation seminars as well as development programmers to further enhance their professional and personal capabilities.

  • Computer Aids

    The firm believes that efficient management of projects entails the use of time and cost-saving devices. TAMS follows very closely the latest developments in computer techniques and adapts them whenever beneficial to the projects concerned.

MANAGEMENT;
   
 

TAMS and its group of companies are headed by Mr Yong Poh Chye B.Econ (Hons), M.Econ (Mal), FTII, MACS. He has been the executive director of TAMS since its incorporation in 1983. Prior to this, he served in the Inland Revenue Department for 11 years and his last post was Senior Assistant Director in the International Tax Division. He also worked briefly in a well-known internationally affiliated professional accounting firm.

Between 1977 and 1982, Yong lectured part time at University Malaya, University Kebangsaan Malaysia on advanced taxation. He was also a part-time lecturer and examiner for the Malaysian Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA) from 1979 to 1984.

In the late 80s, Yong was appointed as a Tax Consultant to the National Productivity Centre of Malaysia and to the World Bank in respect of programmes for small business enterprises in Malaysia. In the 90s, he served as a founding council member of the Malaysian Institute of Taxation (MIT) and continues to be a member of MIT's Technical Committee.

Lately, Yong was an adjunct professor of Universiti Putra Malaysia. He is a member of the International Fiscal Association (IFA) and also a member of Company Practise Group of MAICSA. Possessing 30 years of experience in Malaysia taxation, he is a practising Tax Consultant and is still actively conducting seminars on taxation and investments in Malaysia.
